For forty plus years it has been my privilege to serve as a licensed therapist (1984), clinical psychologist (2015) and alcohol/substance abuse counselor (2005). I also am a spiritual, support counselor for many on the path through collective compassionate consciousness aka One with the Light. In 1965 I experienced a life after life experience and up until then I had not heard about "the Light" and near death experiences. This was almost sixty years ago and as I laid on my maple twin bed due to penumonia, asthma and the flu hitting me all at the same time, I began to lift toward a Light coming from the corner of the bedroom celing. I looked around and saw everything all at the same time. The hairstrand on the dresser, the pen prick on the wall...everything. My consciousness was heightened far more than ever before in this life. For the record, I had no drugs in me and I have never tried drugs and not even marijuana to this day. Orange juice and aspirin were all I had ingested that week. I looked back at the body on the bed and felt no attachment to it. It simply was a covering that had served its' purpose. I wanted to be home with the Light. It was where I belonged. The light was alive and as I reached for it, a barrier came from the Light and suggested I had not learned everything I was here to learn and I had not loved everyone I was here to love and I needed to return to the body. Through the local police intervention, I ended up in the local hospital under the care of doctors and an oxygen tent. Later I was told I was 'dead on arrival' at the hospital. I continue to embrace the connection with the Light with every breath.
Today the Light is my guiding companion. I am 80 years old and every day since February 22, 1965, I remember the Living Light and what it means to me. It is the most real moment of my life and every day I share the essence of that learning and insight with my clients through counseling sessions and through the books I have written. My counseling services and book writings reflect an attempt at reaching higher consciousness and that is what I say at the very first session of any counseling session. "This office is about higher consciousness" and the interpretation of that intention belongs to you. I have no attachment to outcome which means I have no expectations in how others will respond to my words or intentions. In 1982 I finished a Masters in Counseling and in 1987 I received a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. This has been my life's work and education is the greatest gift I have ever given myself. The books and film I created continue to place Collective Compassionate Consciousness as their core intention.
Every experience is an opportunity to learn. You are not the experience. Many years ago, when I had read the Course in Miracles for the third time the central message of choosing Love over Fear was a truth worth living. We have free will and each of us can choose Fear or we can choose Love. It will always be your choice. I chose to be a victim for the first forty years of my life and that was based on fear. I gave up that poor, uninformed choice forty years ago and my life became easy, joyful and filled with contentment. I hope the same for all of my clients. Clients have been my inspiration. I have learned so much from so many of them. They have touched my soul and surrounded my heart with loving acceptance. I have also integrated my years of formal education involving critical thinking skills with my spiritual essence while knowing the Living Light is as real as anything else I have encountered on this current path and combining these truths have allowed me to feel whole in my approach to this life. It is easy to apply clinical interventions to the counseling session in saying, "As you think so you are" (CBT) to have you experienced the unconscious transmission (family of origin systems) or has your external teacher found you today (experiential lessons)? Everything is connected whether through science, social or spiritual concepts and it is our task to grow into this awareness.
